Is TOEFL accepted in Turkey? What score do I need for prep-year exemption?

Short answer
Yes. TOEFL iBT is on ÖSYM’s foreign-language equivalence list and universities use it for prep-year exemption; for example METU asks for 75 and Boğaziçi for 79 with Writing 22. A test taken in Turkey must have been held in a building belonging to a state university.
Visas abroad
- UK: TOEFL is not an approved secure English language test (SELT) for visas; for degree-level Student visas the university may assess your English itself.
- Australia: for tests taken after 21 January 2026, only TOEFL iBT Australia is accepted for visas.
- Canada: according to ETS, TOEFL is not yet accepted for immigration applications.
