The total column is the lowest old 0–120 total for that score. For example, an old total of 95–106 is 5.0 on the new scale.
How is the new TOEFL score calculated?
In the new TOEFL iBT, Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking are each scored from 1 to 6 in steps of 0.5. The overall score is the mean of the four, rounded to the nearest half point: a mean of 5.125 gives 5.0 and 5.25 gives 5.5.
The new scale applies to tests from 21 January 2026. During the transition, score reports also show the CEFR level and the comparable old 0–120 score for two years, so universities may use both scales for a while.
The concordance table is the one ETS publishes. Because the test is adaptive, a section score does not follow from the number of correct answers alone, so this tool does not estimate from correct answers: it calculates the overall from section scores and converts between the two scales.

What is an old TOEFL score of 100 on the new scale?
In the ETS table, old totals of 95–106 correspond to 5.0 on the new scale, so 100 is a 5.0. Totals of 107–113 are 5.5 and 114 or more is 6.0.
How is the TOEFL overall score rounded?
The mean of the four section scores is rounded to the nearest half point. In ETS’s examples, a mean of 5.125 gives an overall 5.0 and 5.25 gives 5.5.
Which level is a TOEFL 5?
According to ETS, 5 and 5.5 correspond to C1, 4 and 4.5 to B2, 3 and 3.5 to B1, and 6 to C2. A 5 in one section shows C1 proficiency in that skill.
