How long is a TOEFL score valid?
Facts last checked against official sources on October 7, 2026.
Short answer
ETS reports and verifies TOEFL iBT scores for 2 years from the test date; older scores cannot be sent. For equivalence in Turkey, an institution may apply a different period when the certificate shows no expiry; check the rule of the institution you apply to.
How do you send your scores to institutions?
Your test fee includes up to four free official score reports. You can add or delete these recipients in your ETS account until 10 p.m. (local test centre time) on the day before your test.
Each institution you add later costs an extra fee; you can order additional reports during your scores’ 2-year validity. The current amount is in the TOEFL fees question.
What if your score has expired?
After 2 years ETS no longer sends or verifies the old score. If an institution wants a valid score you need to take the test again; when planning, allow for the time it takes results to come out.
