YDS Study Plan: 4, 8 and 12-Week Schedules

Short answer

With 12 weeks or more to go, study 45 minutes a day; with 8 weeks, 60 minutes; with 4 weeks, 90 minutes. On weekdays do vocabulary, grammar, question-type practice and reading; on Saturday a full 80-question mock (180 minutes); on Sunday review your mistakes.

The week (the same in every plan)

  • Monday–Friday: the daily split above.
  • Saturday: one mock, 80 questions in 180 minutes under exam conditions (a reading set in weeks without a mock).
  • Sunday: sort the mock’s mistakes by question type, put the weakest type into next week’s practice; a short vocabulary review.

Making the plan work

  • Study words with an example sentence and spaced review rather than as a list: see today’s words again after 1, 3 and 7 days.
  • Conjunctions and tense agreement solve most cloze and sentence-completion items; give them half of the grammar time.
  • In reading, read the questions first, then the passage; note why the wrong options are wrong.
  • Open no new topics in the last two days; review lightly and sleep on an exam-day schedule.
