Kısaca
although, despite, however, whereas, because of, due to, so, therefore ve as a result gibi bağlaçları doğru yapıyla kullanmayı ve Türkçe konuşanların sık yaptığı hataları öğren.
Neden önemli?
B2 seviyesinde cümleleri yalnızca and ve but ile bağlamak yetmez. Bağlaçların asıl işi, fikirler arasındaki ilişkiyi göstermektir: karşıtlık mı, sebep mi, sonuç mu? Her bağlacın arkasından gelen yapı da farklıdır. Hataların çoğu buradan çıkar.
Karşıtlık (contrast)
- although / even though / though + cümle
- Although it was raining, we went out.
- despite / in spite of + isim ya da -ing
- Despite the rain, we went out. / Despite being tired, she kept working.
- despite the fact that + cümle
- Despite the fact that he was tired, he kept working.
- however / nevertheless
- Genellikle yeni bir cümle başlatır veya noktalı virgülden sonra gelir. Arkasından virgül konur: It was cold. However, we stayed outside.
- whereas / while
- İki durumu karşılaştırır: Tom is shy, whereas his sister is outgoing.
Sebep (cause)
- because / as / since + cümle
- We stayed home because it was raining.
- because of / due to / owing to + isim veya isim öbeği
- The match was cancelled because of the rain.
Sonuç (result)
- so + cümle
- It was raining, so we stayed home.
- therefore / as a result / consequently
- Genellikle yeni cümlenin başında gelir ve arkasından virgül alır: Prices rose. As a result, sales fell.
- sosıfat/zarfthat ve such(sıfat)isimthatÖrnekler: The film was so boring that we left. / It was such a boring film that we left.
Türkçe konuşanların tipik hataları

Türkçede "-se de ... ama" kullanılabilir, İngilizcede although ile but aynı cümlede kullanılmaz.

virgülle bağlamak · ya da I was tired, so I went to bed.
- however ile although birbirinin yerine geçmez: Although cümleyi cümleye bağlar, however ise ayrı bir cümleye karşıtlık ekler.
Hızlı ipucu
Bağlaçtan sonra ne geldiğine bak. Tam cümle (özne + fiil) geliyorsa although, because, so, whereas kullan. İsim ya da -ing geliyorsa despite, because of, due to kullan. Yeni cümle başında bağlama görevi yapacaksan however, therefore, as a result seç ve arkasına virgül koy.
