Kısaca
Birinin sorduğu soruyu ya da verdiği emri nasıl aktaracağını öğren: ask if/whether, soru kelimesi + düz cümle sırası, tell/ask someone (not) to do.
Temel fikir
- 'Are you ready?'olur She asked me if I was ready.
- 'Did you call him?'olur He asked me whether I had called him.
- Soru kelimeli sorular (what, where, why, when, how...)soru kelimesiöznefiil**, yani düz cümle sırası
- 'Where do you live?'olur He asked me where I lived.
- 'Why didn't you come?'olur She asked him why he hadn't come.
Dikkat: dolaylı soruda do / does / did yoktur, özne fiilden önce gelir ve soru işareti kullanılmaz.
Zaman kayması (backshift): Aktaran kişi konuşmadan sonra konuşuyorsa fiil genellikle bir adım geçmişe kayar.
- present simpleolur past simple
- present perfect / past simpleolur past perfect
- willolur would
- canolur could
Zamirler ve zaman ifadeleri de anlama göre değişir: I → he/she, now → then, yesterday → the day before, tomorrow → the next day, here → there.
Bir bilgi hâlâ geçerliyse kayma zorunlu değildir: 'Where do you live?' → She asked me where I live (hâlâ aynı yerde yaşıyorum).
Dolaylı emirler ve rica
Yapı: tell / ask / order / warn / remind + kişi + (not) to + fiil.
- 'Sit down.'olur The teacher told us to sit down.
- 'Please help me.'olur She asked him to help her.
- 'Don't touch it!'olur He warned me not to touch it.
ask nazik rica, tell daha doğrudan emir, order resmi ve güçlü emir için kullanılır. Bu yapıda that ya da don't kullanılmaz; olumsuzluk not to ile yapılır.
Türkçe konuşanların sık hataları
Yanlış
He asked me where do I live.DoğruHe asked me where I lived.
Türkçede soru sırası değişmediği için İngilizcedeki yardımcı fiili ve ters sırayı bırakmak zor olur.
Yanlış
She asked me that if I was tired.DoğruShe asked me if I was tired.
Türkçedeki -ip -mediğini sordu kalıbıyla karışır; that ile if birlikte kullanılmaz.
Yanlış
He said me to leave.DoğruHe told me to leave.
- say kişiyi doğrudan almaz; tellkişi kullan
Yanlış
She told me don't be late.DoğruShe told me not to be late.
Yanlış
He asked to me to wait.DoğruHe asked me to wait. (to me değil, doğrudan nesne)
Yanlış

Kısa kontrol listesi
- Soru mu, emir mi? Soruysa if/whether ya da soru kelimesi kullan, emirse tell/ask + kişi + to.
- Düz cümle sırası kullan ve do/does/did ekleme.
- Gerekirse fiili geçmişe kaydır; zamir ve zaman ifadelerini güncelle.
- Olumsuz emirde not to kullan.
