Olumsuz ve kısıtlayıcı ifadeler cümle başına geldiğinde özne ile yardımcı fiilin yer değiştirmesini (inversion) öğren; resmî ve vurgulu İngilizce kur.

Devrik yapı nedir?

  • İngilizcede normal sıra öznefiildirÖrnekler: I have never seen such a view. Bir şeyi güçlü biçimde vurgulamak veya resmî bir ton yaratmak istediğindeolumsuz ya da kısıtlayıcı bir ifadeyi cümlenin başına alırsın. O zaman yardımcı fiil özneden önce gelir: Never have I seen such a view. Buna inversion denir. Anlam aynı kalırama vurgu ve resmîlik artar.

Hangi ifadelerden sonra kullanılır?

Never, rarely, seldom, little
Rarely does she complain.
  • Hardly / scarcely ... when ve No sooner ... than: Hardly had we arrived when it began to rain. / No sooner had we arrived than it began to rain.
Not only ... but (also)
Not only did he lie, but he also tried to hide it.
Not until / Only after / Only when / Only if
Only after the contract was signed did the client see the costs.
Under no circumstances, at no time, in no way, on no account
Under no circumstances should you open this door.
So ... that / Such ... that
Such was her talent that everyone noticed.
Koşul cümlelerinde (if yok)
Had I known, I would have helped. / Were she here, she would help. / Should you need help, call me.

Yapı nasıl kurulur?

  • Cümlede yardımcı fiil varsa (have, will, can, should, be), özneden önce gelir: Never will I forget this.
  • Yardımcı fiil yoksa Present/Past Simple için do / does / did eklersin ve ana fiil yalın hâle döner: Seldom do we get such feedback. / Not only did he forget...
  • Fiil be ise doğrudan özneden önce gelir: Not only was the report late...

Türkçede sözcük sırası esnektir, bu yüzden olumsuz bir ifade başa gelince sırayı değiştirmeyi unutmak kolaydır.

Yanlış

  • Never I have seen it.olur Doğru: Never have I seen it.

  • Seldom we get... ya da Seldom get we...olur Seldom do we get...

do ve ana fiili birlikte çekmek

  • Not only did he forgot...olur Not only did he forget... (did geçmişi taşır, fiil yalın kalır)

Not until'de yanlış yeri ters çevirmek

  • Not until the results were published the team realised...olur Not until the results were published did the team realise... Ters çevirme ana cümlede yapılır; Not until ile başlayan yan cümlede normal sıra kalır.
Çifte olumsuz
Under no circumstances should you not... Olumsuzluk zaten başta, ikinci bir not ekleme.
No sooner ... when
Doğru kalıp No sooner ... than'dır. Hardly / scarcely ile ise when kullanılır.
Her şeyi ters çevirmek
Not only sonrası ilk bölüm devrik olur; but (also) sonrası normal sırada kalır.
