Comparatives ve Superlatives (Karşılaştırma) Konu Anlatımı

Kısaca

İki şeyi karşılaştırmak için -er / more + than, en üstünü söylemek için the -est / the most kullanmayı; big–bigger, easy–easier, good–better gibi kuralları ve Türkçe konuşanların sık hatalarını öğren.

Ne için kullanıyoruz?

İki şeyi karşılaştırırken comparative (daha ...), üç ya da daha fazla şey arasında en üst düzeyde olanı söylerken superlative (en ...) kullanırız.

  • My bike is faster than your bike.Benim bisikletim seninkinden daha hızlı.
  • This is the fastest bike in the shop.Bu, dükkândaki en hızlı bisiklet.

Türkçede "daha" ve "en" ayrı kelimelerdir. İngilizcede ise sıfatın uzunluğuna göre sıfata ek getiririz ya da önüne more / the most koyarız.

Kısa sıfatlar: -er / the -est

Bir heceli sıfatlara (ve çoğu zaman kısa olanlara) ek getiririz:

  • small → smaller → the smallest
  • tall → taller → the tallest
  • nice → nicer → the niceste ile biten sıfatlara sadece -r / -st gelir
  • big → bigger → the biggesttek ünlü + tek ünsüz biterse ünsüz ikilenir; hot → hotter → the hottest da böyledir
  • easy → easier → the easiestünsüz + y biterse y, i olur; happy → happier da böyledir

Uzun sıfatlar: more / the most

-y ile biten iki heceli sıfatlar (easy, happy, busy) dışında, iki veya daha çok heceli sıfatların çoğunda ek getirmeyiz. Önüne more veya the most koyarız:

  • expensive → more expensive → the most expensive
  • comfortable → more comfortable → the most comfortable
  • interesting → more interesting → the most interesting

Düzensiz sıfatlar

Bunları ezberlemelisin:

  • good → better → the best
  • bad → worse → the worst

"than" ve "the"

Comparative'den sonra than gelir. Türkçedeki "-dan / -den" ekinin karşılığıdır:

  • Ankara is smaller than Istanbul.Ankara İstanbul'dan daha küçüktür.

Superlative'in önünde neredeyse her zaman the olur:

  • She is the youngest girl in the class.

Grup veya yer için in kullanırız: in my family, in the class, in the world.

as ... as

İki şey eşitse as + sıfat + as kullanırız. Eşit değilse not as ... as deriz:

  • Can is as tall as Ali.
  • Ali is not as tall as Can. = Can is taller than Ali.

    "Better" zaten comparative'dir.

Hızlı kontrol

  • Kaç hece var? Kısaysa -er / -est, uzunsa more / most.
  • İki şey mi var? O zaman than. Üç ya da daha fazla şey mi var? O zaman the -est / the most.
  • Sıfat düzensiz mi?good, bad

    In our class ifadesi bir grup içinde en üstünü gösterir. Bu yüzden the fastest kullanırız. Faster than iki şeyi karşılaştırırken gerekir.
